The spectacular backdrop of Table Mountain, and the sights and smells of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens creates an unsurpassed venue for local musicians and bands.

Visitors are able to enjoy picnics from early in the afternoon, when it is easier to find a good spot with a clear sight of the stage.

By evening the concert area is packed with visitors, all equipped with picnic blankets, food baskets and drinks. Smoking is not permitted in the main concert area however, and smokers have to take a stroll to indulge during concert times.

Concerts usually last about two to three hours, and typically begin at about 17h00 - 17h30 before the sun goes down. Tickets allow access to the park from 13h30 - 16h00 onwards, and many visitors opt to arrive a bit earlier to enjoy the last rays of sunshine.

Tickets can only be purchased on the weekend of the concert, and are often sold out by the Friday afternoon, especially if the band is very popular.

Previous acts have included local groups such as Prime Circle, Ismael Lo, Freshlyground, Johnny Cooper Band, Karen Zoid and Johnny Clegg, while international acts can be seen at times.

Kirstenbosch also hosts a special New Years Summer Concert, which has a mixed line-up of local and international bands, and runs the whole night through.
