Botswana is one of the last remaining true wilderness destinations. Where nature is still experienced as the early explorers discovered it. Botswana has made great strides in terms of protecting its natural resources, growing its economy and is renowned for its political stability. Botswana’s boast some of the most spectacular environments Africa has to offer.
Many people are familiar with the Okavango Delta, probably Botswana’s premier drawcard. This is the largest inland delta on Earth and its fertile beauty is breathtaking. What many people don’t know is that Botswana is actually mostly arid and is almost entirely covered by the Kalahari Desert.
Perhaps this is why a Botswana safari is so appealing – in a single country, you can experience wonderfully diverse natural environments – the dense concentration of game along the waterways of the Okavango, as well as the harsh survival of desert-dwelling creatures.
While most travellers to Botswana tend to converge around the game rich safari wetlands of the north, particularly the Chobe Region, most of Botswana’s local inhabitants dwell in Gaberone and Francistown, in the South East and North East respectively. As such, most of Botswana remains untouched and unspoilt, leaving massive expanses of wilderness just begging to be explored.
The northern region of Botswana is truly a fisherman’s paradise. The Okavango Panhandle is particularly well-known for its tigerfish and bream, whilst the length of the Chobe River offers excellent sport fishing. Botswana’s prime attraction must however be its prolific bird and wildlife.
In addition to the Big Five, Botswana is also home to species that are otherwise rare such as Aquatic sitatunga and Red lechwe antelope.
There’s a wide range of Botswana safari accommodation to suit your wildlife experience.
The Botswana government does limit tourist numbers to ensure protection of the natrual landscape, therefore we recommend you plan your safari in Botswana well in Advance.
