South Africa

South Africa, situated at the tip of the African continent and blessed with a wealth of exquisite landscapes, diverse peoples and a veritable melting pot of cultures, with a fascinating history and a young and dynamic democracy, wears its ‘Rainbow Nation’ moniker with pride.

The country’s varied terrain ranging from semi-desert to subtropical supports a rich diversity of bird-, plant- and wildlife, and ensure a wide range of experiences – from safaris to birding expeditions, and 4x4 adventures to hikes through unspoilt landscapes.

South Africa is blessed with a temperate climate, with mild winters and warm to hot summers. Wildlife viewing – from spotting the Big Five in the Kruger National Park to whale-watching in the coastal town of Hermanus on the Whale Coast – is at its best in winter. In summer, visitors head for the coast to soak up the sun and the holiday atmosphere. Year round, adrenaline junkies sign up for everything from bungee jumps or diving with great white sharks to paragliding over pristine wilderness areas, while urban sophisticates can soak up the unique atmosphere of each city…

Happily for the international visitor, South Africa is very affordable. World-class hotels, restaurants and shopping opportunities abound And that paired with the country’s stunning scenery, friendly people and an ‘anything is possible’ attitude, makes South Africa the holiday destination of a lifetime.

There is so much to see and to do that it is impossible to cover the whole country in just a few weeks and many travellers choose to return to the country year after year.

Cape Town, a cosmopolitan city cradled in the lap of Table Mountain is a Mecca for holidaymakers of all types. It has pristine beaches, top notch restaurants, shopping galore, outdoor activities and enough nightlife to please all tastes.  Nearby are the Cape Winelands,  the Whale Coast, and the picturesque Cedarberg and Overberg mountain ranges.

Slightly further afield along South Africa’s southern shore lies the Garden Route, a place of gentle beauty, seaside towns, forests and lakes against the backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountain range.

The Eastern Cape holds the Shamwari and Addo Elephant Park reserves - ideal venues for a malaria free family safari - and some of the widest and longest, white sandy beaches that you will ever see.

KwaZulu-Natal offers warm water and beautiful beaches around the City of Durban, the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, the historic battlefield sites of the Zulu and Boer wars, and many big five safari lodges.

In the north, the inland metropolis of Johannesburg, the major economic powerhouse in Africa serves as both the gateway to neighbouring countries in Southern Africa and as the arrival point for visitors en route to a luxury safari in the world-famous Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sands Reserve.
