Durban and Surrounds

uShaka Marine World is Durban’s latest attraction and incorporates Sea World (a shipwreck-themed aquarium, 1 200-seater dolphin stadium, seal pool and penguin rookery); Wet ‘n Wild (a freshwater world of slides and pools); Beach (for sunbathing, building sandcastles, paddling, windsurfing, kayaking); and Village Walk (a retail haven and culinary adventure).

Durban has a large Indian and Hindu population and a visit to this coastal city should definitely include an outing to one of the local Indian restaurants to sample the tasty Indian culinary fare. Cultural highlights of the Durban area include the KwaMuhle Museum, the Victoria Street Indian Market, the Jumma Mosque, the Hare Krishna Temple of Understanding, the Hindu Temple and the Shree Shiva Subrahmanya Alayam.

North of Durban, the Dolphin Coast includes the upmarket resorts of Umhlanga Rocks, Ballito and Shaka’s Rock, playground of the rich and famous and very popular with holiday-makers. Durban has its own international airport and serves as a gateway to travellers en route to various holiday destination like the South Coast of Natal, the Battlefields, Zululand, the Drakensberg, amongst others.
