North West Province

On the border of Botswana and just three hours’ drive from Johannesburg lies Madikwe, one of South Africa’s largest game reserves. With the added appeal of being malaria free, Madikwe has become a prime safari destination. A sustainable joint venture between the state, the private sector and local communities, it is testimony to a truly enlightened conservation plan that has created an exceptional wildlife reserve for the preservation of a unique wilderness area of the Kalahari thornveld in a remote region of South Africa.

Madikwe is not open to the general public – visitors must be accommodated in one of the luxury lodges within the reserve in order to gain access to this rich and diverse safari destination.
