The Laikipi Plateau is the only part of Kenya in which wildlife numbers have actually grown over the past two decades.  Here, the Big Five are protected, the area being one of the last strongholds of Kenya's highly endangered Black rhino population. One of the largest herds of elephant in East Africa, whose numbers exceed 3 000, also find their home in Laikipia.

With a higher population of mammals than anywhere else in East Africa, the Laikipia Plateau of Kenya is the only place to view the endangered Jackson's hartebeest. Other game includes lion, gazelle, Wild dog, cheetah, Reticulated giraffe, impala, Grevy's zebra and the ever elusive leopard.
