The Bazaruto Archipelago of Mozambique, a National Park, harbours one of the last viable dugong populations along the East African coast and commands some of the most pristine coral reefs in the world, rivalling even the Great Barrier Reef.

The main islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago are Bazaruto, Santa Carolina, Benquerra and Magarugue Islands respectively. Bazaruto Island and Benquerra Island both offer superb accommodation.

The islands of Bazaruto offer the epitome of a tropical island holiday with palmed beaches and tepid crystalline waters ideal for swimming, snorkelling, surfing and scuba diving.

Alternative activities include rock and fly-fishing or simply relax and savour the island cuisine and hospitality whilst soaking up the sun.

In the 1970s the Bazaruto Islands and the channel were declared a national park. The World Wildlife Fund for Nature, the South African Nature Trust and the Endangered Wildlife Trust now fund and manage the park, providing protection and conservation for the island's wildlife.
