Africa Travel Checklist

Passport - with a minimum of two blank pages as required by South African law

Visa(s)  - if necessary, please check with your Giltedge Travel advisor

Travel Documentation - itinerary, air tickets, vouchers for ground arrangements, travel insurance, drivers licence, scuba diving certificate, foreign exchange

Personal medication - advise your travel consultant of any allergies, injuries, chronic medication, physical or mental handicaps, or dietary requirements (diabetic, kosher, halaal) you may have, so that the appropriate care can be taken.

Malaria phrophylaxis - if visiting a Malaria endemic area - please check with your Giltedge Travel advisor

Insect repellant  - Peaceful Sleep, Tabard or herbal citronella-based repellants

Personal toiletries - including lip salve and sun protection cream

Swimming Costume - it is not necessary to bring a pool towel as these are provided at the hotels and lodges

Walking Shoes - should Be comfortable and sturdy

Clothing - cool casual clothes for day wear; if on safari avoid white and bright colours - neutral colours are most conducive to good bird-watching and game-viewing; warm clothing at night - a warm sweater, tracksuit or anorak, woolen hat and gloves recommended for early-morning and evening game drives; semi-formal attire for city restaurants

Sun hat - a wide brimmed hat preferable to a peak cap in order to protect the sensitive neck area prone to sunburn.

Sunglasses - a necessity for the strong sunlight and related glare common in South Africa

Camera - as well as spare batteries and film / card

Torch / Flashlight - as well as spare batteries

Binoculars - these can be loaned from the lodges on request

Bird, mammal, insect, plant and tree field guides - these can be loaned from the rangers on request

Interesting Novel - for lazy lunchtime reading

Journal and Pen - to record the holiday of a lifetime
